Maintenance Team
Brian Swartzentruber
Facilities Manager
Has been with Denali Commercial Management 28 years.
“I enjoy the diversity of my job. One minute, I’m programming a building automation system, the next, I’m deciding what kind of roofing system to install on one of our buildings. Wearing many hats makes my job interesting every day. I also enjoy just about every outdoor recreational activity: cycling, white water rafting... When I turned 40 I decided to learn how to snowboard. Not only do I love it, but now I look forward to winter.”
Kathy Cantrell
Facilities
Has been with Denali Commercial Management for 8 years.
“There’s never a dull moment working here; a variety of things happen on a daily basis. I also appreciate the friendships I’ve made with my coworkers. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, my dogs (a German Shepherd and a Corgi), fishing, working in the garden and recycling. I also helped build our cabin down on the Kenai peninsula.”
David Crockett
Maintenance
Will celebrate his one-year anniversary with Denali Commercial Management this fall.
“I really like that I get to do different things everyday. I also enjoy spending time with my family, camping, off-roading and playing almost any sport. People always ask about my name. Davy Crockett is my fifth-great uncle. I’m also related to Picasso on my Italian side.”
Riley Hester
Carpenter
Has been with Denali Commercial Management for 1.5 years.
“The thing I like most about working here is that I’m not doing the same thing every day. I get to work on new, different projects all of the time. In the winter I like going snowboarding and snow-machining, but the most exciting thing in my life right now is that I’m going to be a father in 5 months. In high school, I bench pressed more than twice my body weight, which comes in handy working in the maintenance department.”
Rick Mastel
Maintenance
Will celebrate his one-year anniversary with Denali Commercial Management this summer.
“I really like that I get to work outside. My wife also works in accounting, so I get to see her throughout the day, which I like, but I’m not so sure if she does... When away from the office, I enjoy spending time with my family, riding motorcycles in the summer, and snow-machining in the winter. I don’t mess around either, I’ve won the Arctic Man race, the North American Snow-Mobile championship and the Alaska State Motocross championship.”
Gerald Peek Jr.
Carpentry Supervisor
Has been with Denali Commercial Management for 14 years.
“I love that my job is different every day. When not working, I enjoy gardening and playing golf, especially in The Building Owner & Managers Association Anchorage annual golf tournament.”
Jim Peet
Window Washer
Has been with Denali Commercial Management for 21 years.
“I enjoy the sense of freedom I’m given working here. I get to be a little ‘picky and choosy’ about my job sites, which works well for me because I’m a pretty independent person. I also enjoy playing practical jokes on my coworkers. When not hanging off the sides of our buildings, I like going skiing, fishing, hiking, and just being lazy.”
Alvin Virella
Painter
Has been with Denali Commercial Management for 5 years.
“I really like my co-workers. They are a great group of people. I enjoy making our properties look new and attractive to current and future tenants. People see the outside first; I try to make that first impression a positive one. I enjoy playing basketball, baseball, reading, biking and walking the trails. I’m also a writer and an artist.”
Merv Vahlbusch

Curtis Yaska

“Working at the Mall at Sears, I get to do a lot of different things, but my favorite thing to do is ride the Genie Lift. When I’m not working, I enjoy going on hunting trips around Alaska in the summer time. In 1989, I worked on the Valdez oil spill cleanup in Prince William Sound.”
